10 Best Movies of 2015!

As the year 2015 is coming to an end, it’s time for us to look back and see the best movies of 2015. Statutory Warning: This is my opinion and it might differ from yours therefore please do not crucify me 😉

This year belonged to the letter ‘B’.  Most of the movies which had a title starting with the letter ‘B’ eg: Baby, Badlapur, Bajrangi Bhaijaan, Baahubali, Bajirao Mastani etc. surprisingly not only did well at the Box Office but also garnered critical acclaim. So here we go.

Baby

Baby: One of the first movies to release in 2015 starring Akshay Kumar and Tapsee Pannu was a winner with the masses and the critics. Directed by Neeraj Pandey who had earlier directed A Wednesday and Special 26, this spy action thriller had some breathtaking stunts and edge of the seat moments. This songless movie made at a budget of Rs.58 crores set the ball rolling for Akshay Kumar and earned few crores short of Rs.100 Crores.

Badlapur

Badlapur: This Varun Dhawan revenge drama with some soulful music was released one week after the Valentine’s Day. Badlapur not only gave Sriram his first hit after Ek Haseena Thi, Johnny Gaddar and Agent Vinod but also gave Varun a major image makeover, who has always been associated with candy floss romances in the past. This Sriram Raghavan directed movie had some high power performances from actors like Nawazuddin Siddique, Huma Qureshi, Divya Dutta and Radhika Apte. Made on a budget of Rs.25 Crores, this action crime thriller earned around Rs.77 Crores at the Box Office.

DUMLAGAKE

Dum Laga Ke Haisha: This Ayushmann Khurrana – Bhumi Pednekar romantic comedy from YRF was one of the surprise hits of the year. Set in 1995, the movie tells the story of a loser who gets married to a fat girl against his wishes and how during the course of their marital journey they fall in love with each other. A simple story that not only won big hearts but also big money for the producers. This Sharat Katariya movie made at a budget of Rs.15 Crores (inclusive of Print and Publicity) earned around Rs.45 Crores net at the Box Office.

NH!)

NH10: The shy ‘Taaniji’ from Rab Ne Bana Di Jodi turned producer with this movie and also went out of her comfort zone to do a slasher thriller revolving around her character. The plot inspired from the English movie Eden Lake tells the story of a couple whose road trip goes for a toss after a chance encounter with a group of violent criminals who kill their sister and her lover in the name of honour killing. This Navdeep Singh directed movie garnered a lot of critical acclaim for Sharma and the masses also loved the movie making it a sleeper hit at the Box Office. Made on a budget of Rs.13 Crores, NH10 made Rs.33 Crores at the Box Office.

bahubali4

Baahubali – The Beginning: This is one of the rarest cases in Indian cinema where a dubbed movie made more than Rs.100 Crores at the Box Office. Directed by the hugely talented SS. Rajamouli this epic historical fiction movie is first of the two parts. Starring Prabhas and Rana Daggubatti as two warring brothers fighting for control of an ancient Indian kingdom Maheshmati, this movie was an answer to Hollywood productions such as Game of Thrones and 300. The movie not only broke records within India but also internationally. Made at a budget of Rs.120 Crores the movie made Rs.600 Crores worldwide, breaking all language barriers. The second part Baahubali – The Conclusion is one of the most awaited movies of 2016.

bajrangi-bhaijaan

Bajrangi Bhaijaan: Salman Khan starrers are a huge pull during Eid every year. However, 2015 Eid was special not only for Salman Khan but also to his fans as one of his career best movies released with a thundering response at the Box Office. This emotional drama directed by Kabir Khan tells the story of Pawan (Khan) a simpleton and an ardent devotee of Hanuman who finds a mute Pakistani girl (Harshali) separated from her family during her visit to India. He embarks on a journey to unite the kid with her family back in Pakistan. Also starring Kareena Kapoor and Nawazuddin Siddiqui, Bajrangi Bhaijaan made at a budget of Rs.90 Crores and produced by Salman Khan, garnered around Rs.324 Crores net in India while its worldwide collection was to the tune of Rs.625 Crores.

tanu-manu-poster-759

Tanu Weds Manu Returns: This Kangana Ranaut-Madhavan sequel to 2011’s surprise hit Tanu Weds Manu was one of the much awaited movies of the year. Like its prequel, this Aanand L. Rai musical-romcom high on performances did very well at the Box Office. Kangana Ranaut in her career’s first double role as Dattu and Tanu won the hearts of the viewers apart from giving one of her career-best performances. After last year’s Queen, Kangana proved once again that she is one actor who do not need a Khan, Kapoor or Kumar to give a Box Office hit. Give her a good script and see her transform in front of the camera. Tanu Weds Manu is the only woman oriented movie made in India that has earned over Rs.150 Crores. The total budget of the movie was Rs.15 Crores.

Talvar

Talvar: This Meghana Gulzar movie was based on the 2008 Noida double murder case, in which a teenage girl and her family servant were found murdered, and her parents were convicted for the murders. The movie not only revived the case but also showed the investigation flaws conducted by the Police Department and CBI. The movie starring  Irrfan Khan, Konkona Sen Sharma, Neeraj Kabi and Sohum Shah in leading roles garnered critical as well as box office acclaim. Made at a budget of Rs.15 Crores the movie made almost Rs.30 Crores at the Box Office.

Tamasha

Tamasha: This Ranbir-Deepika movie directed by Imtiaz Ali attracted a lot of debate. Some liked the movie, some hated it while some didn’t understand the story at all. Like all Imtiaz Ali movies this one was also an emotional tale that narrates the story of Ved (Ranbir) who loses his self by living according to the social conventions expected of him unless he is reintroduced to himself by Tara (Deepika). Made at a budget of Rs.60 Crores this movie made Rs.106 Crores worldwide.

BM

Bajirao-Mastani: The long in the making Sanjay Leela Bhansali dream epic released along with Shahrukh-Kajol hyped movie Dilwale. Minus the original cast of Salman-Aishwarya-Rani, this movie will go down in the history of Indian movies as one of the most well made and stylish movies after Mughal-E-Azam. High on performance and critical acclaim, this Ranveer Singh-Deepika-Priyanka movie was the best way to close a year filled with lot of cinematic surprises. Made on a budget of Rs. 120 Crores this movie has already made Rs.128 Crores at the box office and it is still going strong.

5 sureshot gifts for men that will always work

I often hear from many of my friends especially women who are confused about what to gift the men in their life – father, brother, boyfriend, husband etc. Times have changed and these days you will find more and more women looking out for gifts for men. Often, women find it difficult to choose a perfect gift for their men and end up buying something that might be of no use to them. I have listed below five options that are always a sure-shot hit with men.

  1. White Shirt: Every man likes to have a nice branded white shirt in their wardrobe. White always makes them look smart and it goes with every trouser or jeans they wear. So when in doubt always gift your man a white shirt.
  2. XBOX or Gaming Device: Every man is a child at heart and therefore they fancy their ‘toys’. So if you are in doubt about buying gifts for him then a gaming device is a perfect choice. Gift one and you can see how the smile spreads on his face within seconds.
  3. Shaving Kit: Today’s metrosexual men love to groom themselves and if you can gift them a good shaving kit that has everything they need from razor to a cologne, nail cutter to scissors they will definitely thank you from their heart.
  4. Scotch: One of the most timeless gift option for any man in this world is gifting a bottle of Scotch. Surprised? Yes, every man whether it is your father, boyfriend, husband or brother will always like to cherish a bottle. I would suggest Scotch as a gift will always work and even if they are not into drinking, they will still keep it as a momento to show around to their friends when they come
    home.
  5. Swiss Knife: Every man has a hidden adventurer in him and always dream of having a good set of Swiss knife in his collection. So if you are wondering what to gift, then get one for him.

Movie Review: Pyaar Ka Punchnama 2 – Old Wine In New Bottle!

PKP2

This week opens with the sequel to the 2011 surprise hit Pyaar Ka Punchnama. It has become a fashion to ride on the back of one’s successful movies when your last movie is a flop. That’s what director Luv Ranjan does after the debacle of his last release – Aakash-Vani by following it up with Pyaar Ka Punchnama 2.

Coming to the story, there is nothing new apart from two new boys and one new girl added to the cast. The story, the premise and situations is similar to the previous movie with few added punchlines and better dialogues. Like in the previous movie, the three boys Gogo (Karthik Aryan), Siddharth (Sunny Singh) and Thakur (Omkar Kapoor) are best friends and roommates. Out of the three boys, Thakur has a steady job that pays him a lucrative pay, which also helps his pile on friends to lead a life of luxury. The three boys fall in love with three different girls on the same day and they even easily pataofy the girls.

After the initial honeymoon days, the boys realize their mistake of being with the girls. The girls, Ruchika (Nushrat Bharucha) being a spoilt brat is more interested in keeping her friends happy rather than her boyfriend Gogo and makes him do things that he normally wouldn’t. Kusum (Ishita Raj), Thakur’s girlfriend is an outspoken and controlling person, who in the name of handling his finances makes him spend more on her while Supriya (Sonali Sehgall), Siddharth’s girlfriend makes him do all the household chores to please her parents, only to approve of a guy selected by them. What happens to the boys and their lovers? Will the girls repent and try to pataofy the boys? Will the boys leave the girls and look for someone else are few things you will discover while watching the movie.

The story, screenplay is nothing new, it just plays around with the same concept as seen in the previous movie however, the dialogues by Rahul Mody, Tarun Jain and Luv Ranjan is praiseworthy. Musically the movie doesn’t boast of any chartbusters although the movie has three music directors Hitesh Sonik, Sharib Sabri and Toshi Sabri while the background music by Hitesh Sonik keeps the audiences hooked to the movie. The editing by Akiv Ali and Ajay Sharma is crisp while the cinematography by Sudhir Chaudhary is average.

Coming to performances, all the three male actors have done a wonderful job. Among the girls Nushrat takes the cake while Sonali and Ishita is average. Director Luv Ranjan does a decent job however, would want to see him do something better than just known for his PKP series.

Overall it is a decent one-time watch.

My Verdict: ***

Phantom Movie Review: Naam Bade Aur Darshan Chote

Capture

Too many expectations and hype were attached with this week’s release Phantom directed by Kabir ‘Bajrangi Bhaijaan’ Khan starring Saif Ali Khan and Katrina Kaif however, the movie falls flat on its face.

Kabir Khan is synonymous with movies that have a background of terrorism whether it is Kabul Express, New York and Ek Tha Tiger the only exception being Bajrangi Bhaijaan which was an emotional story about a good Samaritan trying to help a mute girl accidentally left behind in India get back home – Pakistan.

Phantom tells the story of a shamed Army office Daniyal (Saif) living a life of anonymity and who is yearning to get his stripes back. parallelly a covert intelligence group is seething at the Center as they feel that a suitable revenge was not meted out for the 26/11 carnage. Therefore this group takes it on themselves to punish those terrorists who were responsible for the carnage as they feel that getting permissions from official quarters will never come.

It so happens Daniyal is recruited for this mission and he is sent along with Nawaz (Kaif) across continents to find the four main kingpins who masterminded 26/11.

The movie is adapted from Hussain Zaidi‘s book Mumbai Avengers however it has been co-written by Kabir Khan and by Parvez Shaikh of Queen fame for the screen. The performances are average whether it is Saif or Kaif, even a matured actor like Mohammed Zeeshan Ayub loses the plot and hams throughout the movie mouthing some of the most silliest dialogues.

Coming to the other departments of the movie I must applaud cinematographer Aseem Mishra for capturing every frame brilliantly. The background music by Julius Packiam is superb. Apart from Afghan Jalebi there is no other song composed by Music Director Pritam that is worth humming. Editing could have been crisper. Direction is okay compared to Kabir Khan’s previous movies.

On the whole this movie might not appeal to everyone and might not be a huge earner like Kabir Khan’s previous movies.

My Verdict: **

App Review: Momoe – Roam cashless in Bangalore

momoe_logo_new

I love experimenting with apps and the latest app that caught my fancy is MOMOE. I being a person who hates carrying bulging wallets in the back pocket of my jeans, found it amazing to make payments through my mobile phone. Once I downloaded the app I browsed around and found some amazing features;

Instant checkout without waiting for the bill – That’s such a relief right?
View your order live when you dine – Again something nice for the impatient person like me 🙂
Split bills with friends – This is totally my zone, now I do not have to remind my friends to pay me back for using my wallet 😛
Get loyalty rewards – I love this feature especially getting Rs.500 cashback on your first transaction
Get referral credits when you refer a friend – Great however, you get Rs.100 credits only if your friend makes his first payment using Momoe 🙁
Enjoy exclusive offers at places you visit often – This is a great feature for businesses to attract repeat footfalls and customer loyalty
Book events and gigs at participating outlets – I have not used this feature yet, but totally recommend it

I used Momoe to pay my bill at my favorite restaurant two days back. It was quite hassle free as I just had to give my number to the waiter and then click on the restaurant name in the app. Punch in your bill amount and make payment after attaching your cards to the app. If you are concerned about security then let me tell you the payment system is totally secure with the two factor authentication used by every other known e-commerce app.

Apart from restaurants you can also use this app to make payments at your local grocery shops, apparel stores, electronic shops, salons and medical stores, etc. You can also get 10% cashback up to Rs. 500 per day on your purchases. Although this service is only available in Bangalore, I am sure in the coming days it will expand all over India.

The UI is clean and you can navigate the app with ease. For me this is one app that has to be there on my smartphone.

My Verdict: 4/5

Dazo Food Delivery Service – A Review

Dazo-Brand

I have been a regular user of Dazo App before it got its rebranded avatar from being Tapcibo. Earlier they used serve food cooked in their kitchen which I felt was thousand times better than the now sourced food from various other food joints viz. Beat-D-Hunger, Bhukkad, Momoz, Mast Kalander, Cup-O-Joe etc.

The menu is not quite extensive however, it has something or the other catering to every person. I am a major fan of the sandwiches sourced from Bhukkad, quite tasty and the complimentary juice is something I look forward to on most of the days. However, I am hugely disappointed with the rotis / paranthas provided by them with the meals sourced from Beat-D-Hunger or Mast Kalandar. The rotis / paranthas are mostly half-cooked or as hard as rock. Wouldn’t recommend them to you.

The food sourced from Momoz (which is one of my favorite dining outlets in Koramangala) is good, but the portions are small.  The Mast Kalandar food combos minus the rotis / paranthas are also good. The dosas sourced from Adigas get soggy by the time it reaches its destination. Khan Saheb rolls are not worth the money you pay as the wheat rotis they use as the outer cover gets really messy when they get delivered to you and the filling portion is very less.

On the plus side I would say the food is delivered mostly within the stipulated time however, I have a major problem with the app. They have the option to recharge their wallets which automatically pays out while you place an order without asking if the customer wants to pay by cash / by wallet. I find it quite uncomfortable because there have been times when I had to order for my colleagues in office and the money is taken from my wallet for the order. And there have been times when my colleagues have forgotten to pay me back. If they work on the option it would be a major advantage for app users like me.

Overall the app is good. There is some nice variety in the menu. However, I would definitely advice Dazo to reconsider cooking food in their kitchen like before or look at the quality of the rotis / paranthas they serve if they want to keep customers like me happy.

Furniture Renting — A New Way of Life!

_DSC9347 (1)

Why should you rent furniture?
After you have finished reading this article, you’ll be wondering why you never did!

The only thing constant in life is change and its impact on lives. What if you shift to a new city for work or studies? After you rent a place, the biggest challenge is to either shift your furniture from your hometown or buy new furniture. In both cases, you end up spending a lot of money. Towards the end of your stint at the city, finding buyers for your used furniture or costs involved in transporting them to your home/another city is such a pain!

Have you ever thought how convenient it would be to rent furniture in such cases? This would make the entire process of moving to another place so simple and smooth. No worries about assembling or damaging the furniture during transportation. Furniture renting companies make your lives easier - once your tenure is nearing the end in a city, they come and collect the furniture, leaving you with only few bags of clothes and other easy movables.

Or are you a person who would get bored of the same furniture? With renting of residential furniture, you can change the look of your house frequently, and that too without worrying about financing or disposing the old furniture.

In India, not many people are aware of the concept of renting or leasing residential furniture, while some feel that renting or leasing of residential furniture is a waste of money as they do not acquire ownership. Moreover, they end up paying more than the value of the furniture through monthly subscription plans. Here are some indicators, which would help understand why renting or leasing residential furniture is the best financially-sound decision.

1) Save Money: Why should you invest a huge amount of money in purchasing furniture when you have an option to use the best and most desirable furniture in the market at cheaper monthly subscription? You can save a considerable amount of money by renting furniture and this money can be invested in assets that give good returns.

2) Be Hassle Free: The most expensive and stylish furniture today might not always remain in vogue. Selling them off at low prices to upgrade in a few years is not a great idea! Moreover, if your stay in a city is not too long, selling/transporting furniture will be at a loss/cost. Make your life easier by simply renting furniture!

3) Speedy Delivery: Once you select your furniture and monthly subscription, the dealer ensures that the furniture is delivered at your doorstep within 24 hours. What more can you ask for to set up a new home with all the comforts you need!

4) Easy Availability: What you see is what you get! Your choice of furniture is just few clicks away. Only readily available furniture are posted on the website, and hence you need not worry about the availability.

5) Convenient and Pocket Friendly: You can select and rent from a range of furniture within your budget. Once you have your home set up and if you feel that a furniture is of no use, you may just contact the dealer and he will pick it up at your convenient time at no added expense.

6) Zero Wear and Tear Expense: You do not have to worry about the wear and tear of the furniture, as the cost is included in the monthly rental plan.

There are few residential furniture leasing or renting companies in the Indian market, and FURLENCO beats them all in their game with its pocket friendly monthly plans. They have monthly subscription plans ranging from Rs. 1,500/- to Rs. 7,500/- per month, wherein you can get your 1BHK house to a 3BHK house fully furnished. For more details, visit www.furlenco.com. You can pick and choose your plan as per your need and budget, and make furniture rental a way of life!
